Award recognizes outstanding achievements of alumni early on in their career

Calgary, AB – October 2, 2014 – Pieter Boekhoff has been named the winner of the prestigious Horizon Award, presented by Mount Royal University to alumni early on in their career. The awards, held earlier this evening at the Roderick Mah Centre for Continuous Learning, recognized four individuals for outstanding achievements scholastically and in the community.

Boekhoff, who was a graduate of the Bachelor of Applied Computer Information Systems and Business program in 2007, has spent the past several years as an avid entrepreneur and passionate mentor.

He developed of iMirror, a multi-touch mirror that when turned can utilize several retail and media applications - when turned off the surface acts as an ordinary mirror. Owning the multi-touch space for mirrors is now the major focus of Boekhoff’s Nobal Technologies Inc.

Boekhoff is also the co-founder, sole owner and principal, of AcceleratorYYC, a tech community and co-working space for start-ups. The company serves as an incubator and work space for Calgary’s brightest, budding entrepreneurs to get a start.

“It is an honour to be recognized for doing what I love to do,” says Boekhoff. “There is so much untapped potential for Calgary’s start-up community and I hope to continue to grow that talent and help other entrepreneurs see their businesses thrive in this community.”

Mount Royal University celebrated the achievements of four extraordinary Mount Royal alumni and a future alumna at the Alumni Achievement Awards event on Oct. 2, 2014.
